Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời đức Phật trú tại vườn Cấp Cô Độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, tại nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Hãy diệt một pháp, xa lìa một pháp, Ta sẽ xác chứng các ngươi thành A-na-hàm. Một pháp gì? Xan tham. Cho nên, này các Tỳ-kheo, hãy diệt xan tham, Ta sẽ xác chứng các ngươi đắc A-na-hàm.”
Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn liền nói kệ này:
Bị nhiễm bởi xan tham,
Chúng sanh rơi đường dữ;
Siêng tu bỏ xan tham,
Liền thành A-na-hàm.
Các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những gì Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨 T 0566c02園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「當滅一法，捨離一 T 0566c03法，我證汝等成阿那含。云何為一法？所謂 T 0566c04慳貪。是故，諸比丘！當滅慳貪，我證汝等 T 0566c05阿那含。」
爾時，世尊便說此偈：

「慳貪之所染， 眾生墮惡趣； T 0566c07
當懃捨慳貪， 便成阿那含。」
T 0566c08爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0566c09 SC 1Thus I have heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “If someone were to cease one thing, I’d bear witness that they’ve become a non-returner. What is that one thing? It’s stinginess. Monks, you should cease stinginess, then I’ll bear witness that you’ve become non-returners.”
SC 3The Buddha then spoke this verse:
“The stain of stinginess
Makes sentient beings fall to bad destinies.
One should endeavor to abandon stinginess,
Then they’ll become a non-returner.”
SC 4When the monks heard what the Buddha taught, they rejoiced and approved.
