Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời đức Phật trú tại vườn Cấp Cô Độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, tại nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Hãy diệt một pháp. Ta xác chứng các ngươi thành quả thần thông, các lậu diệt tận. Một pháp gì? Nếm vị dục. Cho nên, này các Tỳ-kheo, hãy diệt vị ngọt của dục này. Ta xác chứng các ngươi thành quả thần thông, các lậu diệt tận.”
Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn liền nói kệ này:
Chúng sanh đắm vị này,
Chết đọa vào đường ác.
Nay nên bỏ dục này,
Liền thành A-la-hán.
“Cho nên, này các Tỳ-kheo, thường nên bỏ tưởng đắm vị này. Như vậy, này các Tỳ-kheo, hãy học điều này.”
Các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những gì Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨 T 0571b18園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「當滅一法，我證 T 0571b19汝等成果神通，諸漏得盡。云何為一法？所 T 0571b20謂味欲。是故，諸比丘！當滅此味欲，我證汝 T 0571b21等成神通果，諸漏得盡。」
爾時，世尊便說此 T 0571b22偈：

「眾生著此味， 死墮惡趣中； T 0571b24
今當捨此欲， 便成阿羅漢。
T 0571b25「是故，諸比丘！常當捨此味著之想。如是，諸 T 0571b26比丘！當作是學。」
爾時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡 T 0571b27喜奉行。
T 0571b28 SC 1Thus I have heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “Should you cease one thing, I’ll bear witness that you’ve achieved the fruit of spiritual knowledge and the end of the contaminants. What is that one thing? It’s enjoyment of desires. Therefore, monks, should you cease the enjoyment of desires, I’ll bear witness that you’ve achieved the fruit of spiritual knowledge and the end of the contaminants.”
SC 3The Bhagavān then spoke in verse:
“Sentient beings attached to enjoyments
Fall to bad destinations when they die.
If you should abandon these desires now,
You’ll achieve the fruit of the arhats.
SC 4“Therefore, monks, you must always abandon notions that are attached to enjoyment [of desires]. Thus, monks, you should train yourselves.”
SC 5When the monks heard what the Buddha taught, they rejoiced and approved.
