BJT 620Lúc bấy giờ, đấng Chiến Thắng tên Padumuttara, bậc Tự Chủ, nhân vật cao cả đã cư ngụ tại Cittakūṭa (đỉnh núi Citta) ở phía trước núi Hi-mã-lạp.
BJT 621Ở tại nơi ấy, tôi đã là (con sư tử) vua của loài thú có dáng vóc dũng mãnh đi khắp bốn phương. Nhiều người hoảng hốt sau khi nghe tiếng rống của nó.
BJT 622Sau khi cầm lấy đóa sen khéo được nở rộ, tôi đã đi đến gần đấng Nhân Ngưu và đã dâng đến đức Phật (khi Ngài) đã xuất khỏi định.
BJT 623Sau khi lễ bái đức Phật tối thượng, bậc Tối Thượng Nhân từ bốn hướng, tôi đã làm cho tâm của mình được tịnh tín rồi đã rống lên tiếng rống của loài sư tử.
BJT 624Bậc Thông Suốt Thế Gian Padumuttara, vị thọ nhận các vật hiến cúng, đã ngồi xuống ở chỗ ngồi của mình và đã nói lên những lời kệ này:
BJT 625Nhận biết giọng nói của đức Phật, tất cả chư Thiên đã tụ hội lại (nói rằng): “Vị đứng đầu trong số các bậc thuyết giảng đã đi đến, chúng ta sẽ lắng nghe Giáo Pháp của Ngài.”
BJT 626Đấng Lãnh Đạo Thế Gian, bậc Đại Hiền Trí có sự nhìn thấy tương lai xa vời, đã tán dương đức tin của tôi ở phía trước chư Thiên đang được tràn ngập niềm vui ấy rằng:
BJT 627“Người nào đã dâng cúng đóa hoa sen này và đã rống lên tiếng rống của loài sư tử, Ta sẽ tán dương người ấy. Các người hãy lắng nghe Ta nói.
BJT 628Vào kiếp thứ tám về sau này, người này sẽ trở thành đấng Chuyển Luân Vương được thành tựu bảy loại báu vật, là chúa tể của bốn châu lục.
BJT 629(Người này) sẽ là đấng Chuyển Luân Vương có sức mạnh vĩ đại tên Paduma cai quản lãnh địa ở trên trái đất sáu mươi bốn lần.
BJT 630Vào một trăm ngàn kiếp (về sau này), bậc Đạo Sư tên Gotama, thuộc dòng dõi, xuất thân gia tộc Okkāka sẽ xuất hiện ở thế gian.
BJT 631Khi Phật Ngôn được công bố, (người này) sẽ là thân quyến của Phạm Thiên (dòng dõi Bà-la-môn). (Người này) sẽ lìa khỏi phẩm vị Bà-la-môn và sẽ xuất gia ngay khi ấy.
BJT 632Có tính khẳng quyết về sự nỗ lực, được an tịnh, không còn mầm mống tái sanh, (người này) sau khi biết toàn diện về tất cả các lậu hoặc, sẽ Niết Bàn, không còn lậu hoặc.
BJT 633Tại chỗ ngụ hẻo lánh ở trong rừng đầy dẫy ác thú, (vị ấy) sau khi biết toàn diện về tất cả các lậu hoặc, sẽ Niết Bàn, không còn lậu hoặc.”
634—636. Các phiền não của tôi đã được thiêu đốt, ―(như trên)― tôi đã thực hành lời dạy của đức Phật.
Đại đức trưởng lão Piṇḍolabhāradvāja đã nói lên những lời kệ này như thế ấy.

“Padumuttaro nāma jino,
sayambhū aggapuggalo;
Purato himavantassa,
cittakūṭe vasī tadā.
Abhītarūpo tatthāsiṁ,

Tassa saddaṁ suṇitvāna,
vikkhambhanti bahujjanā.
Suphullaṁ padumaṁ gayha,
upagacchiṁ narāsabhaṁ;
Vuṭṭhitassa samādhimhā,
buddhassa abhiropayiṁ.
Catuddisaṁ namassitvā,
buddhaseṭṭhaṁ naruttamaṁ;
Sakaṁ cittaṁ pasādetvā,
sīhanādaṁ nadiṁ ahaṁ.
Padumuttaro lokavidū,
āhutīnaṁ paṭiggaho;
Sakāsane nisīditvā,
imā gāthā abhāsatha.
Buddhassa giramaññāya,
Sabbe devā samāgatā;
‘Āgato vadataṁ seṭṭho,
Dhammaṁ sossāma taṁ mayaṁ’.
Tesaṁ hāsaparetānaṁ,
purato lokanāyako;
Mama saddaṁ pakittesi,
dīghadassī mahāmuni.
Yenidaṁ padumaṁ dinnaṁ,
sīhanādo ca nādito;
Tamahaṁ kittayissāmi,
suṇātha mama bhāsato.
Ito aṭṭhamake kappe,
cakkavattī bhavissati;
Sattaratanasampanno,
catudīpamhi issaro.
Kārayissati issariyaṁ,
mahiyā catusaṭṭhiyā;
Padumo nāma nāmena,
cakkavattī mahabbalo.
Kappasatasahassamhi,
okkākakulasambhavo;
Gotamo nāma gottena,
satthā loke bhavissati.
Pakāsite pāvacane,
brahmabandhu bhavissati;
Brahmaññā abhinikkhamma,
pabbajissati tāvade.
Padhānapahitatto so,
upasanto nirūpadhi;
Sabbāsave pariññāya,
nibbāyissatināsavo.
Vijane pantaseyyamhi,
vāḷamigasamākule;
Sabbāsave pariññāya,
nibbāyissatināsavo.
Paṭisambhidā catasso,
vimokkhāpi ca aṭṭhime;
Chaḷabhiññā sacchikatā,
kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ”.
Itthaṁ sudaṁ āyasmā piṇḍolabhāradvājo thero imā gāthāyo abhāsitthāti.

the Self-Become One, Best Person,
did dwell in Cittakūṭa then,
in front of the Himalayas. Verse 1
Walt 621 I was then the king of beasts there,
fearlessly going on all fours.
Hearing the voice of that Buddha
many folks were assembling then. Verse 2
Walt 622 Picking up a blooming lotus
I approached him, the Bull of Men,
and gave it to the Buddha when
he’d risen from meditation. Verse 3
Walt 623 I worshipped from four directions
the Best Buddha, Ultimate Man
and bringing pleasure to my heart
I then roared out a lion’s roar. Verse 4
Walt 624 Padumuttara, World-Knower,
Sacrificial Recipient,
sitting down on his own seat then
uttered these verses about me: Verse 5
Walt 625 Knowing that Buddha would speak, the
gods all came together, thinking,
“the Best One, the Buddha has come;
let us listen to his Teaching.” Verse 6
Walt 626 The World-Chief, the Far-Seeing One,
the Great Sage Buddha then explained
the meaning of my roar before
those gods overcome with laughter. Verse 7
Walt 627 “I shall relate details of him
who gave me this lotus flower
and who has roared a lion’s roar;
all of you listen to my words: Verse 8
Walt 628 Eight aeons in the future he
will be a wheel-turning monarch,
possessor of the seven gems,
a lord of the four continents. Verse 9
Walt 629 He then will reign over the earth
for four more than sixty lifetimes.
He will be known as Paduma,
a wheel-turning king with great strength. Verse 10
Walt 630 In one hundred thousand aeons,
arising in Okkāka’s clan,
the one whose name is Gotama,
will be the Teacher in the world. Verse 11
Walt 631 This one will be a brahmin when
the Buddha’s words are broadcast then.
Leaving behind his brahmin-ness,
he’ll go forth in the Buddhist way. Verse 12
Walt 632 Being one bent on exertion,
calmed, devoid of grounds for rebirth,
knowing well all the defilements,
he’ll reach nirvana, undefiled. Verse 13
Walt 633 Though of a frightful clan of beasts
living in the deepest forest,
knowing well all the defilements,
he’ll reach nirvana, undefiled.” Verse 14
Walt 634 My defilements are now burnt up;
all new existence is destroyed.
Like elephants with broken chains,
I am living without constraint.
Walt 635 Being in Best Buddha’s presence
was a very good thing for me.
The three knowledges are attained;
I have done what the Buddha taught!
Walt 636 The four analytical modes,
and these eight deliverances,
six special knowledges mastered,
I have done what the Buddha taught! Verse 15
Thus indeed Venerable Piṇḍola-Bhāradvāja Thera spoke these verses.
