Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời đức Phật trú tại vườn Cấp Cô Độc, rừng cây Kỳ Đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Có hai hạng người xuất hiện thế gian, rất khó gặp được. Hai hạng người ấy là ai? Người hay thuyết pháp xuất hiện ở thế gian, thật là khó gặp được; người hay nghe pháp, thọ trì phụng hành, thật là khó gặp được. Tỳ-kheo, đó là hai hạng người xuất hiện thế gian, thật khó gặp được.
“Cho nên, này các Tỳ-kheo, hãy học thuyết pháp. Hãy học nghe pháp. Như vậy, này các Tỳ-kheo, hãy học điều này.”
Các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những gì đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨 T 0596a01園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「有二人出現世間， T 0596a02甚難得遇。云何為二人？能說法人出現於 T 0596a03世，甚難得值；能聞法人受持奉行，甚難得 T 0596a04值。是謂，比丘！有此二人出現世間，甚難得 T 0596a05遇。是故，諸比丘！當學說法，當學聞法。如 T 0596a06是，諸比丘！當作是學。」
爾時，諸比丘聞佛所 T 0596a07說，歡喜奉行。
T 0596a08 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying in Śrāvastī, at Jetṛ’s Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park. The the Exalted One said to the bhikkus:
“There are two persons whose appearance in the world is extremely rare. Which are the two? Exceedingly rare is the appearance in the world of a person that is able to set forth the Teaching, and equally rare is the appearance of someone who is able to listen to the Teaching, remember it and put it respectfully into practice. These are, monks, the two persons whose appearance in the world is extremely rare. On this account, monks, you should train to be expounders of the Teaching and also to be true listeners taking heed of the Teaching. Thus, O monks, you should train.”
After listening to the Buddha’s words, the monks were pleased and respectfully applied themselves to practice.
