Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời đức Phật trú tại vườn Cấp Cô Độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, tại nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Ta không thấy một pháp nào nhanh nhạy hơn tâm, không thể thí dụ được. Giống như vượn khỉ, tâm không chuyên định, buông cái này, chụp lấy kia. Tâm cũng như vậy, tưởng trước và tưởng sau bất đồng, không có phương tiện nào để có thể mô tả được sự nhanh nhạy của tâm.
“Cho nên, này các Tỳ-kheo, người phàm phu không thể quán sát tâm ý. Vì vậy, này các Tỳ-kheo, hãy luôn luôn hàng phục tâm ý khiến hướng theo đường thiện. Các ngươi hãy học điều này.”
Các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những gì Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
聞如是：
一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。
T 0562c11爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「我不見一法疾於心 T 0562c12者，無譬可喻，猶如獼猴捨一取一，心不 T 0562c13專定。心亦如是，前想、後想所念不同，是故， T 0562c14諸比丘！凡夫之人不能觀察心意所由。是 T 0562c15故，諸比丘！常當降伏心意，得趣善道，是 T 0562c16故，諸比丘！當作是學。」
爾時，諸比丘聞佛所 T 0562c17說，歡喜奉行。
T 0562c18 SC 1Thus I have heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “I don’t see a single thing as quick as the mind. There’s no comparison for it. The mind drops one thing and picks up another when it isn’t focused and settled, just like a monkey. The mind is likewise when that previous and subsequent perceptions of its thoughts aren’t the same. Therefore, monks, ordinary people are unable to observe the origin of their mind’s thinking.
SC 3“Therefore, monks, one should control their thinking to lead their mind to the good path. Thus, monks, you should train yourselves.”
SC 4When the monks heard what the Buddha taught, they rejoiced and approved of it.
