Tôi nghe như vầy:
“Có bốn Thánh đế. Những gì là bốn? Đó là Khổ Thánh đế, Khổ tập Thánh đế, Khổ diệt Thánh đế, Khổ diệt đạo tích Thánh đế. Tỳ-kheo đối với Khổ Thánh đế đã biết, đã hiểu; đối với Khổ tập Thánh đế đã biết, đã đoạn; đối với Khổ diệt Thánh đế đã biết, đã chứng; đối với con đường đưa đến sự diệt tận của Khổ Thánh đế đã biết, đã tu. Như vậy, Tỳ-kheo này đạt đến tận cùng cứu cánh, tận cùng lìa hết cấu nhiễm, tận cùng phạm hạnh đã hoàn thành, thuần nhất trong sạch, được gọi là Thượng sĩ.”
Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住波羅［木＊奈］國仙人住T 0104c10處鹿野苑中。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「有四聖T 0104c11諦。何等為四？謂苦聖諦、苦集聖諦、苦滅聖T 0104c12諦、苦滅道跡聖諦。若比丘於苦聖諦已知、T 0104c13已解，於苦集聖諦已知、已斷，於苦滅聖諦T 0104c14已知、已證，於苦滅道跡聖諦已知、已修。如T 0104c15是比丘邊際、究竟邊際、離垢邊際，梵行已T 0104c16終，純一清白，名為上士。」
佛說此經已，諸比T 0104c17丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0104c18 SC 1Thus I have heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at the Residence of Sages in the Deer Preserve of Bārāṇasī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “There are four noble truths. What are the four? They are the noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of suffering’s formation, the noble truth of suffering’s cessation, and the noble truth of the path to suffering’s cessation.
SC 3“If a monk has known the noble truth of suffering, then he has understood [suffering] … has known the noble truth of suffering’s formation, then he has ended [its formation] … has known the noble truth of suffering’s cessation, then he has realized [its cessation] … has known the noble truth of the path to suffering’s cessation, then he has cultivated [that path]. In this way, that monk is at the end, the final end, the end that’s free of defilement. The religious life being finished, he’s entirely pure white. He’s called a superior man.”
SC 4After the Buddha spoke this sūtra, the monks who heard what the Buddha taught rejoiced and approved.
