Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở trong vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ Đức Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Ta sẽ nói về sự tu tập tám Thánh đạo. Hãy lắng nghe và, suy nghĩ kỹ. Tu tập tám Thánh đạo là thế nào? Tỳ-kheo tu tập chánh kiến, y viễn ly, y vô dục, y diệt, hướng đến xả. Tu chánh chí, chánh ngữ, chánh nghiệp, chánh mạng, chánh phương tiện, chánh niệm, chánh định, đều y viễn ly, y vô dục, y diệt, hướng đến xả. Đó gọi là tu tám Thánh đạo.”
Sau khi Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Phật đã dạy, đều hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給T 0200b05孤獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「我今當說修T 0200b06八聖道。諦聽，善思。何等為修八聖道？是比T 0200b07丘修正見，依遠離、依無欲、依滅、向於捨，T 0200b08修正志、正語、正業、正命、正方便、正念、正定，依T 0200b09遠離、依無欲、依滅、向於捨，是名修八聖道。」
T 0200b10佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0200b11 SC 1Thus have I heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “Now, I will explain the cultivation of the noble eightfold path. Listen closely and consider it well.
SC 3“What is the cultivation of the noble eightfold path? Here, a monk cultivates right view, relying on seclusion, the lack of desire, cessation, and an orientation towards renunciation … cultivates right intent … right speech … right action … right livelihood … right method … right mindfulness … right samādhi, relying on seclusion, the lack of desire, cessation, and an orientation towards renunciation. This is called cultivating the noble eightfold path.”
SC 4After the Buddha spoke this sūtra, the monks who heard what the Buddha taught rejoiced and approved.
