Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở trong vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ Đức Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Nay Ta sẽ nói về Tỳ-kheo đã tu tập tám Thánh đạo trong quá khứ, sẽ tu tập tám Thánh đạo trong vị lai, chi tiết cho đến, các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những gì Phật đã dạy, đều hoan hỷ phụng hành.”
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤T 0200b12獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「我今當說比丘過T 0200b13去已修八聖道，未來當修八聖道。」乃至……。
諸比T 0200b14丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0200b15SC 1Thus have I heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “Now, I will explain a monk’s past cultivation of the noble eightfold path and future cultivation of the noble eightfold path. [Listen closely and consider it well.]”
SC 3[“What is the cultivation of the noble eightfold path? Here, a monk cultivates right view, relying on seclusion, the lack of desire, cessation, and an orientation towards renunciation … cultivates right intent … right speech … right action … right livelihood … right method … right mindfulness … right samādhi, relying on seclusion, the lack of desire, cessation, and an orientation towards renunciation. This is called cultivating the noble eightfold path.”]
SC 4After the Buddha spoke this sūtra, the monks who heard what the Buddha taught rejoiced and approved.
