Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, có một Tỳ-kheo kia, đến chỗ Đức Phật, đầu mặt làm lễ, rồi đứng qua một bên, bạch Phật rằng:
“Như Đức Thế Tôn nói ‘Pháp thứ pháp hướng.’ Vậy thế nào là Pháp thứ pháp hướng?”
Phật bảo Tỳ-kheo:
“Lành thay! Lành thay! Nay ngươi muốn biết Pháp thứ pháp hướng phải không?”
Tỳ-kheo bạch Phật:
“Thưa vâng, bạch Thế Tôn.”
Phật bảo Tỳ-kheo:
“Hãy lắng nghe và suy nghĩ kỹ, Ta sẽ vì ngươi mà nói.
“Này Tỳ-kheo, đối với sắc mà hướng đến yểm ly, ly dục, diệt tận, thì gọi đó là Pháp thứ pháp hướng. Cũng vậy đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức mà hướng đến yểm ly, ly dục, diệt tận, thì đó gọi là Pháp thứ pháp hướng.”
Tỳ-kheo kia sau khi nghe những lời Phật dạy, phấn khởi vui mừng, lạy Phật mà lui.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤T 0005c21獨園。
爾時，有異比丘來詣佛所，頭面作禮，T 0005c22却住一面，白佛言：「如世尊說法次法向，T 0005c23云何法次法向？」
佛告比丘：「善哉！善哉！汝今欲T 0005c24知法次法向耶？」
比丘白佛：「唯然，世尊！」
佛告T 0005c25比丘：「諦聽，善思，當為汝說。比丘！於色向厭、T 0005c26離欲、滅盡，是名法次法向；如是受、想、行、識，T 0005c27於識向厭、離欲、滅盡，是名法次法向。」
時，彼T 0005c28比丘聞佛所說，踊躍歡喜，作禮而去。
T 0005c29 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park. At that time a certain monk approached the Buddha, paid homage with his head at the Buddha’s feet and withdrew to stand at one side. He said to the Buddha: “As the Blessed One has spoken about proceeding in the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma—how does one proceed in the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma?”
The Buddha said to the monk: “It is well, it is well. You now wish to know how to proceed in the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma. Is it like this?” The monk said to the Buddha: “Indeed, Blessed One.”
The Buddha said to the monk: “Listen and pay careful attention to what I will tell you. Monk, proceeding towards disenchantment in regard to bodily form, towards being free from desire for it, towards its cessation, this is reckoned as proceeding in the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma. In the same way proceeding towards disenchantment in regard to feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, towards being free from desire for it, towards its cessation, this is reckoned as proceeding in the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma.”
Then that monk, hearing what the Buddha had said, was thrilled with delight, paid homage and left.
