Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ-kheo:
“Đối với sắc không biết, không rõ, không đoạn tận, không ly dục, tâm không giải thoát, thì không vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.
“Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức mà không biết, không rõ, không đoạn tận, không lìa tham dục, tâm không giải thoát, thì sẽ không thể nào vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.
“Tỳ-kheo, đối với sắc nếu biết, nếu rõ, nếu đoạn tận, nếu ly dục, thì sẽ vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.
“Này các Tỳ-kheo, người nào nếu biết, nếu rõ, nếu đoạn tận, nếu lìa tham dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có thể vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.
“Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức nếu người nào nếu biết, nếu rõ, nếu đoạn tận, lìa tham dục, tâm giải thoát, thì sẽ vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.”
Bấy giờ, các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những điều Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨T 0001b07園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「於色不知、不明、不斷、T 0001b08不離欲、心不解脫者，則不能越生、老、病、死T 0001b09怖。如是受、想、行、識，不知、不明、不斷、不離欲T 0001b10貪、心不解脫者，則不能越生、老、病、死怖。
「比T 0001b11丘！於色若知、若明、若斷、若離欲，則能越生、老、T 0001b12病、死怖。諸比丘！若知、若明、若離欲貪、心解脫T 0001b13者，則能越生、老、病、死怖。如是受、想、行、識，若T 0001b14知、若明、若斷、若離欲貪、心解脫者，則能越生、T 0001b15老、病、死怖。」
時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0001b16 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park. At that time the Blessed One said to the monks:
“Not understanding bodily form, not having knowledge regarding it, not eradicating desire for it, not being free from desire for it, one will not liberate the mind and be unable to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death. In the same way not understanding feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, not having knowledge regarding it, not eradicating desire for it, not being free from desire for it, one will not liberate the mind and be unable to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death.
“Monks, understanding bodily form, having knowledge regarding it, eradicating desire for it, being free from desire for it, one is able to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death. Monks, understanding it, having knowledge regarding it, being free from desire and lust for it, one will liberate the mind and be able to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death. In the same way understanding feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, having knowledge regarding it, eradicating desire for it, being free from desire and lust for it, one will liberate the mind and be able to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death.”
Then the monks, hearing what the Buddha had said, were delighted and received it respectfully.

“Này các Tỳ-kheo, người nào nếu biết, nếu rõ, nếu đoạn tận, nếu lìa tham dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có thể vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.
“Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức nếu người nào nếu biết, nếu rõ, nếu đoạn tận, lìa tham dục, tâm giải thoát, thì sẽ vượt qua khỏi sự sợ hãi về sanh, già, bệnh, chết.”
Bấy giờ, các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những điều Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park. At that time the Blessed One said to the monks:
“Not understanding bodily form, not having knowledge regarding it, not eradicating desire for it, not being free from desire for it, one will not liberate the mind and be unable to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death. In the same way not understanding feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, not having knowledge regarding it, not eradicating desire for it, not being free from desire for it, one will not liberate the mind and be unable to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death.
“Monks, understanding bodily form, having knowledge regarding it, eradicating desire for it, being free from desire for it, one is able to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death. Monks, understanding it, having knowledge regarding it, being free from desire and lust for it, one will liberate the mind and be able to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death. In the same way understanding feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, having knowledge regarding it, eradicating desire for it, being free from desire and lust for it, one will liberate the mind and be able to go beyond the dread of birth, old age, disease and death.”
Then the monks, hearing what the Buddha had said, were delighted and received it respectfully.
