"Giống như khi người ta đánh một cái bình bằng đồng hoặc đĩa đồng, nó phát ra tiếng. Khi nhấc lên, nó vẫn vang vọng âm thanh kéo dài. Con người cũng vậy, khi tâm hoạt động, tầm khởi lên. Khi đĩa bị đánh, gọi là tầm; khi nó phát ra âm thanh, gọi là tứ."
"Hay thay, Na-tiên."
王復 T 0713c20問那先言。何等為內動者。那先言志念內便 T 0713c21動。王言動行時云何。那先言譬如銅鋗銅釜。 T 0713c22有人往燒之。其器有聲。舉乎有餘音。而行 T 0713c23人如是志動念因行。那先言燒時為動有餘 T 0713c24音為行。王言善哉。
The king asked Nāgasena again, “What is reflection?” Nāgasena replied, “When the mind gives rise to thought, then there is a reflection.”
“How does reflection give rise to investigation?”
“It is like a copper vessel or bronze plate when beaten by a man, it makes a sound. When it is raised up, it still gives out lingering sound. The man is also the same, when the mind is active, then thought arises. When the plate is beaten, it is called reflection, when it gives sound, it is called investigation.”
“Excellent, Nāgasena.”
