Cha đối con vui thích,
Chủ với bò vui thích,
Người sanh y, vui thích,
Không sanh y, không vui.
(Thế Tôn):
Cha đối con sầu muộn,
Chủ với bò sầu muộn,
Người sanh y, sầu muộn,
Không sanh y, không sầu.
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
“Nandati puttehi puttimā,
Gomā gohi tatheva nandati;
Upadhīhi narassa nandanā,
Na hi so nandati yo nirūpadhī”ti.
“Socati puttehi puttimā,
Gomā gohi tatheva socati;
Upadhīhi narassa socanā,
Na hi so socati yo nirūpadhī”ti.
SC 1At Savatthi. Standing to one side, that devatā recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
SC 2 “One who has sons delights in sons,
One with cattle delights in cattle.
Acquisitions truly are a man’s delight;
Without acquisitions one does not delight.”
The Blessed One:
SC 3 “One who has sons sorrows over sons,
One with cattle sorrows over cattle.
Acquisitions truly are a man’s sorrows;
Without acquisitions one does not sorrow.”
