Vi-n 2 Lúc bấy giờ hai Tỷ-kheo cãi lộn nhau. Ở đây, một Tỷ-kheo phạm tội, Tỷ-kheo ấy phát lộ tội phạm là tội phạm trước mặt Tỷ-kheo kia. Tỷ-kheo ấy không chấp nhận.
Vi-n 3 Rồi Tỷ-kheo đi đến Thế Tôn; sau khi đến, đảnh lễ Thế Tôn rồi ngồi xuống một bên. Ngồi xuống một bên, các Tỷ-kheo ấy bạch Thế Tôn:
Vi-n 4 —Ở đây, bạch Thế Tôn, có hai Tỷ-kheo cãi lộn nhau. Một Tỷ-kheo phạm tội. Bạch Thế Tôn, Tỷ-kheo ấy phát lộ tội phạm là tội phạm trước mặt Tỷ-kheo kia. Tỷ-kheo ấy không chấp nhận.
Vi-n 5 —Này các Tỷ-kheo, hai Tỷ-kheo này là ngu si: một vị không thấy phạm tội là phạm tội, một vị không chấp nhận phát lộ tội phạm đúng pháp. Này các Tỷ-kheo, hai vị Tỷ-kheo này là ngu si.
Vi-n 6 Này các Tỷ-kheo, hai Tỷ-kheo này là sáng suốt, một vị thấy phạm tội, một vị chấp nhận phát lộ tội phạm đúng pháp. Này các Tỷ—kheo, hai Tỷ-kheo này là sáng suốt.
Vi-n 7 Thuở xưa, này các Tỷ-kheo, Thiên chủ Sakka, để làm hòa dịu chư Thiên ở Tam thập tam thiên tại hội trường Sudhamma, ngay trong lúc ấy, nói lên bài kệ này:
Hãy nhiếp phục phẫn nộ,
Giữ tình bạn không phai,
Không đáng mắng, chớ mắng,
Không nên nói hai lưỡi,
Phẫn nộ quăng người ác,
Như đá rơi vực thẳm.
Sāvatthiyaṁ …pe… ārāme.
Tena kho pana samayena dve bhikkhū sampayojesuṁ.
Tatreko bhikkhu accasarā.
Atha kho so bhikkhu tassa bhikkhuno santike accayaṁ accayato deseti;
so bhikkhu nappaṭiggaṇhāti.
Atha kho sambahulā bhikkhū yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṁsu; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdiṁsu. Ekamantaṁ nisinnā kho te bhikkhū bhagavantaṁ etadavocuṁ:
“idha, bhante, dve bhikkhū sampayojesuṁ, tatreko bhikkhu accasarā.
Atha kho so, bhante, bhikkhu tassa bhikkhuno santike accayaṁ accayato deseti, so bhikkhu nappaṭiggaṇhātī”ti.
“Dveme, bhikkhave, bālā.
Yo ca accayaṁ accayato na passati, yo ca accayaṁ desentassa yathādhammaṁ nappaṭiggaṇhāti—
ime kho, bhikkhave, dve bālā.
Dveme, bhikkhave, paṇḍitā.
Yo ca accayaṁ accayato passati, yo ca accayaṁ desentassa yathādhammaṁ paṭiggaṇhāti—
ime kho, bhikkhave, dve paṇḍitā.
Bhūtapubbaṁ, bhikkhave, sakko devānamindo sudhammāyaṁ sabhāyaṁ deve tāvatiṁse anunayamāno tāyaṁ velāyaṁ imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
‘Kodho vo vasamāyātu,
Mā ca mittehi vo jarā;
Agarahiyaṁ mā garahittha,
Mā ca bhāsittha pesuṇaṁ;
Atha pāpajanaṁ kodho,
Pabbatovābhimaddatī’”ti.
SC 1At Savatthī. Now on that occasion two bhikkhus had a quarrel and one bhikkhu had transgressed against the other. Then the former bhikkhu confessed his transgression to the other bhikkhu, but the latter would not pardon him.
SC 2Then a number of bhikkhus approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, sat down to one side, and reported to him what had happened. The Blessed One said:
SC 3“Bhikkhus, there are two kinds of fools: one who does not see a transgression as a transgression; and one who, when another is confessing a transgression, does not pardon him in accordance with the Dhamma. These are the two kinds of fools.
SC 4“There are, bhikkhus, two kinds of wise people: one who sees a transgression as a transgression; and one who, when another is confessing a transgression, pardons him in accordance with the Dhamma. These are the two kinds of wise people.
SC 5“Once in the past, bhikkhus, Sakka, lord of the devas, instructing the Tavatiṁsa devas in the Sudhamma assembly hall, on that occasion recited this verse: sn.i.240
SC 6 “‘Bring anger under your control;
Do not let your friendships decay.
Do not blame one who is blameless;
Do not utter divisive speech.
Like a mountain avalanche
Anger crushes evil people.’”
